Day Trip To Skipton

We took a little trip to Skipton in North Yorkshire on Thursday.

Two trains to get there

Unbelievably this old clunky train we got from Leeds goes all the way to Morecambe. I don't think I'd be impressed going on a cross Pennine journey on that but just over half an hour to Skipton was fine.

We went on a boat up the canal and back again

We saw a man on a funny water bike thing having a photoshoot. It was to do with the Tour de France coming through the town this summer

Then we went to find a little cafe for something to eat. First one we walked into that wasn't too busy we were refused service. Apparently it was over 50s only. Empty aswell. I need to learn to read.  As much as I wanted to embrace going to a traditional cafe over fast food we were starving so ended up at Subway over the road.

We had a little wander around the town and then made our way to a huge park over from the train station where my son could let off a bit of steam.

I spent a few minutes taking in the surroundings and trying to take a bit of a panoramic view of the hill and beautiful trees. There were a fair few people in the playground with tiny people having lots of fun which was lovely to see.

Then it was back on the train to Leeds. Posh one this time. Four minutes to get across the station for our connecting clunky train home or thirty four minutes for the next one. We made the four minutes with seconds to spare and home.

A couple from a trip we had today to Skipton in North Yorkshire.  First is a statue of Fred Trueman, a Yorkshire cricketer, and second a Tour de France banner.

100 Happy Days - 34 to 36

Day 34 - crazy temperatures on bank holiday Monday.

Day 35 - my youngest has been pestering for his hair cutting into a quiff what feels like every minute of every day for the last few weeks. I finally took him yesterday. We went to a different barber shop to usual. This one was a Turkish barber and when he asked for a quiff the barber said did he mean a comb over which is popular right now and similar. Apparently so. He's chuffed to bits with it. Way too short at the back in my opinion but if he likes it and it's what he wants then I'm happy.

Day 36 - my eldest son pressed the button on the UCAS website today. We have spent a lot of time and travelled a lot of miles to get to this point of making the firm choice. 4 of his 5 offers all had the same entry criteria of AAB and the other had a very low requirement so insurance was a choice of one. The big decision came down to two. One was a short distance from home and the other a couple of hours. His choice, which I respect, was a couple of hours away. It was the one university that stood out above the others for everything. He is happy so I am happy. No photo for this one.

100 Happy Days - 31 to 33

Day 31 was going to be apple blossom buds until I noticed this little bit of wallpapering my 18 year old had done in his bedroom. A level maths and further maths revision. Made me smile.

Day 32 - freshly dug land at the allotment. A very satisfying feeling. Needs some chicken manure pellets sprinkling on before the rain comes in the next few days and raking over. I think this will be my sweetcorn bed this year.

Day 33 - the Easter bunny came. 4 each for my 4 kiddiwinks from ourselves/my brother and sister plus a huge box of choccies for them to share from my mum. I don't get the whole lavish gift thing at Easter. When the kids were little we maybe bought a DVD between them or they had new clothes to wear but I've seen pics on Facebook today of Christmasesque piles of presents all wrapped up. Explain the reason for Easter and give them a chocolate egg and/or an egg hunt. There's no need for the rest of it (in my tight fisted opinion lol).

100 Happy Days - Day 30

So day 30 was a happy gobsmacked moment. My 18 year old son went to the shop and came back with a creme egg for me. I think I'm still in shock

100 Happy Days - 24 to 29

First of all fab news after photo 23 which was the interview my daughter was going for. She got the job and from September will be a fully fledged newly qualified geography teacher. So proud of her.

Day 24 - a knitting commission for a customer of our local wool shop.

Day 25 - an eye test for my youngest and new specs

Day 26 - a yummy freebie with the shopping delivery

Day 27 - we collected his new specs. Specsavers had an amazing offer on of free prescription sunglasses with kids glasses. Bearing in mind that kids glasses are free anyway this is a fantastic freebie. He's never been able to have sunglasses before because his prescription has always been big so has needed his glasses on all his waking hours. He's beyond excited for prescription sunnies. The husband thinks he looks like Chow from the hangover films. Not sure that's a good thing haha

Day 28 - a fun science workshop at our local high school. This one is making a bobsleigh to get an egg down a ramp safely and as quickly as possible. His name was top of the list when we left which pleased him no end.

Day 29 - a bit of dug land amongst the weed chaos at the allotment. I've started a new blog just for allotment stuff but more of that later.

Punky Scraps April

The April challenge is live and here is my take on it:

I was inspired by the colours and playful nature of the picture and chose a photo of my youngest on the Spin Dizzy ride at Diggerland.  I've written before about how he just missed out (by a day and a half  of hospital appointments) on going on the school trip to Diggerland for a full year attendance because he had his knee injury at the end of last June.  I promised him that as soon as he was in a physical position to fully enjoy the theme park I would take him myself.  He couldn't have done anything really because of the mobility issue had he gone with school anyway so it worked out for the best.  We ended up going on 31st October on a beautiful sunny day in half term and it was quiet enough for him to do as much as he wanted as many times as he wanted.  The one ride he was unsure of was Spin Dizzy. He had been on it before at a birthday party two times straight after the other. Needless to say it didn't end well so he was understandably anxious.  He decided to go on it in the end and then as we were leaving asked to go on it again.  He loved it and knows that twice in a row is not good but twice spread out over the day is much better.  It goes without saying that I took a fair few photos of him on the ride but because, as the name suggests, it moves so fast this was perhaps one of the better ones.....needless to say there are and will never be any photos of me on this ride. I hate this sort of thing lol

100 Happy Days - Days 21 to 23

Day 21 is the start of a new baby blanket for the shop. I've gone for neutral pastel green, lemon and white.

Day 22 is my youngest's entry into the decorated egg competition at school. They started out as minions but ended up as aliens and best of all he won second prize so I'm chuffed to bits.  It also gave him a confidence boost which is never a bad thing.

Day 23 - I dropped my eldest child off at an interview this morning which came about as the result of her going to a previous interview at another school and they passed her details to this school.  It is hard for newly qualified teachers (which she will be in just a few weeks) to make an impact at an interview when there are experienced teachers also being interviewed which is what happened at the first interview but for them to be impressed enough to pass her details to another school is a positive step forward.

100 Happy Days - Days 15 to 20

Oops I've got behind with posting this. No surprise there then!

Day 15 was the first birthday my daughter has had away from home as it usually falls in uni holidays so it was strange. My happy day photo was pinched from her Instagram of some of her presents.

Day 16 was the first outdoor rugby session of the year. Muddy knees = a happy kid who has had a good time and therefore a happy mum.

Day 17 is quite simply kitty cuddles.

Day 18 is planting parsnips and turnips at  the allotment.

Day 19 - the first craft fair of the year. I do a regular venue once a month but there haven't been any since December so I'm happy to be back into it.

Day 20 - sproutings overnight in a makeshift planter I sowed some perennial flower seeds. I'm over the moon they've germinated.
