Skywatch

I have no idea where this week has disappeared to.  Thursday has crept up and bit me on the bottom and I had almost forgotten about skywatch. That is what a bank holiday weekend, school holidays and builders still being here when they should be finished does for you.

This picture is one I took in the local DIY car park.  I find it pretty disturbing and dangerous that they are allowed to have an electricity pylon in the car park.  Being a bank holiday monday when we went though parking was limited and we ended up parked right by it.

The Point Of No Return

Skywatch viewers my picture is at the bottom of this loft conversion update.

The point of no return is the point we are now at.  After an almost 2 week break whilst the staircase was built the builders were back this week.

Tuesday saw the worst day for mess.  They knocked out part of a wall and some of the boys' bedroom ceiling to make way for the turn of the stairs.

these are all the 100+ year old very local bricks they removed.  I was quite fancying some of them to stand my plant pots on and to smash up for rubble to put in the bottom of them for drainage but alas they took them away yesterday.

I was officially allowed a viewing yesterday before they went home.  The tape went up afterwards to stop the kids going up they said.

I was told I needed imagination but to be honest I can kind of see how it will come together.  Not very big but big enough.  The other side of the staircase is very low headroom but will be fantastic for storage.  I've given up on the craft room idea.

and since it is thursday here is skywatch.  It's a picture I took on monday using my phone so the quality is a bit rubbish.  We took a walk to the local car boot sale but went the scenic route and ended up walking past a local cemetery.  These blossom trees instantly caught my eye and I couldn't resist snapping them.  I felt a bit disrespectful taking a picture of a graveyard though even if it was through a fence.

Edited To Add: a car boot sale is where people take their old items they no longer want and sell them from their car boots (trunks) usually in a big field with lots of other people on a specified day which is generally a bank holiday.

tomorrow (fingers very crossed) I am hoping there will be some knitting content.

Skywatch

Another picture borrowed from my husbands travels north, south, east and west through England following his football team Leeds United.  This picture is of the Dartford Crossing when they went to Gillingham a couple of weeks ago.

I've been over this myself when we have travelled to Dover for the ferry to France and from the north it is bridge over and tunnel back.  The congestion is causes is horrendous at times and I remember one time we almost missed our ferry because it was crazy busy.

Only one more official away day left of this season (Charlton this weekend) provided they can avoid the dreaded playoffs so I will have to rely on my own pictures in future lol.

is it a plane?  Why yes it is! Yesterday, for the first time in almost a week because of the Icelandic volcano there was a plane up in the sky so I had to take a picture. You might need to squint to see it :)

I couldn't resist taking a picture of these clouds either.  Almost the type you find in kids drawings.

Lots more planes today.  These vapour trails evidence that they are making up for lost time and trying to clear the backlog of passengers.

Skywatch Extra

This week has been quite historic for the skies above the UK in that ALL aircraft has been grounded except for emergencies due to a huge volcanic ash cloud gatecrashing our airspace from  Eyjafjallajokull in Iceland.

This is my current view of the sky which to be honest make it hard to believe there is an ash cloud up there.

and these are some internet piccies I found of the ash cloud and the eruption. Obviously none are mine but they weren't copyrighted so I thought it would be OK to share.

We are told that it isn't dangerous to go out which is just as well now that I have a hole in my bedroom ceiling and can see the sky through the cracks in the slates not to mention the hole the builders have cut for the window which is sheeted over.

Skywatch Archive

This week I have gone back into the archives to show you this sky from August 2006.  It is the Yorkshire Wheel at the National Railway Museum.  I don't think it is still there.

I also found this piccie in the same file of me and my boys.  WOW they certainly look young.

Skywatch & Has Spring Sprung

First of all is my rubbish skywatch piccie for this week.  It has been one of those weeks where I don't really get out and about anywhere interesting so this is a pic of a bird feeder in my back yard.  As you can see the sky is blue without any clouds.  We have had quite a few days like this lately but the temperatures soon drop once it gets dark and most mornings we have frost.

So yes during the day it might feel like spring has sprung but it is still technically winter and spring is only on the horizon.  

I've been watching Lambing Live on BBC2 this week.  I think it has been a fab show.  Whilst I was searching for a piccie for it I came across this article which is rather negative.  As anybody who has watched it will know many lambs have been born live on air.

                                   

 My bulbs have starting coming up but I can't for the life of me remember what they are.

These ones are OK because I put a label on (very blurry sorry).  Tulips

but these two I really can only assume they are mini daffodils because they look the same and the ones I put in with the ivy have some buds that look like daffys.  Time will tell

This week we had to drive in some very dense fog to the applicants day at Hull University where my daughter is hoping to attend in september.  She took some photos while we were travelling along the M62 so this weeks Skywatch is foggy sky not that you can actually see it lol.  This shot was actually a clearer patch than some we drove through.  Can't believe how many vehicles didn't have any form of light switched on.

and then again when we got on the A63 nearing the Humber Bridge.  This was a tricky one for her to capture on camera because the trees kept getting in the way not to mention the lorries on the other carriageway.  We ended up with a lamp post in the centre of the shot but that doesn't matter.  The next section of the bridge just past where the bare tree is was under cloud cover but that was impossible to shoot.

Skywatch Friday & Oops

My picture for Skywatch Friday this week is one I took on the way back from the supermarket this morning whilst stuck in a traffic jam.  The wheel is a reminder that we live in an ex mining town.  At night it lights up with changing colours.  Looks like they were doing some maintenance on it today.

Now I have an oopsie from my C words.  How I forgot I really don't know but

Snow Is Boring Now

When it first started snowing it was nice and pretty and not something we are used to but the novelty has certainly worn off now. Even the kids are bored of it. Although I can't quite believe that my son took his football to the park yesterday and didn't fall on his butt.

I have two skywatch pictures this week - the first (above) is of our christmas tree which we have put out in the back yard for now until it can be chopped up and recycled.  Ironically we took it down the same day the snow started so it looks nice sat out there with snowy branches.  The sun melted some of it yesterday and that blue sky was yesterday afternoon.  We have had a sprinkling again overnight.

My second (below) is on tuesday when we got the bulk of the snowfall.

I also took a picture last night of the last sky of the year but it didn't turn out too well.

Merry Snowy Christmas

A merry christmas to everybody - stay safe on those icy roads.

We had snow last night and went to the park this morning. Daisy loved it and my 5 year old and his dad managed a snowman. We had to use dog biscuits for it's eyes and mouth and an empty doggie bag for the mouth. Oh and dad's hat. One of the biscuits magically disappeared when Daisy went past it.

Finally since it is almost Friday here is Skywatch Friday taken last night.

Tis Friday so a skywatch photo is called for. I am cheating with this one because it isn't taken by me but it was a bit of an excitement to add to the week and it does have our local sky on it. It is an embarassing photo and I must be mad putting it on here but this is the story behind it.

I went to the park with Daisy earlier in the week. First thing I saw was the dog warden's van parked across the path and two police officers with a photographer. One of the police officers started walking towards me and my instant thought was 'oh god there has been a horrible dog attack and she is telling me to keep away'. How wrong I was. She asked if I would allow them to take some pictures as part of a campaign they are doing to combat the huge problem we have with people not picking up after their dogs.

I was given a poop bag and told to pretend to pick up some doggie doo, make Daisy sit and they would do the rest. I am so so so glad that my head is down and my hair is obscuring my face.

The photo appeared on the local police website the next day and apparently it may be used in the local newspaper and other advertising for the campaign. They took another photograph showing the dog warden giving me a pretend ticket. She actually has a machine a bit like a traffic warden and can issue an on the spot fine of £50 to anybody not picking up after their dog. I had no idea they could do that.

I must admit I was anxious about Daisy doing her business during the photo shoot because sometimes it can be a bit difficult to pick it all up. I swear I could do with a jet wash strapped to my back at time with her. OK that was far too much information and I'm sorry.

Skywatch Friday

Today's skywatch friday is a cheat I took on tuesday when we made a visit to the club store for some gloves although to be honest it has been pretty much similar since then apart from a couple of showers which is very unusual considering most of the UK has had very bad rain.

I'm not complaining though.
