Skywatch

A couple from a trip we had today to Skipton in North Yorkshire.  First is a statue of Fred Trueman, a Yorkshire cricketer, and second a Tour de France banner.

I've not done Skywatch for a long time. 

In complete contrast to the gusts of wind and showers we are having today I've chosen a picture from a recent journey we made up the A1 to Newcastle. This rainbow was in front of us for a long portion of the journey.

It's been a while since I joined in over at Skywatch.  Tonight's sunset was shouting to be photographed even if it was only with my phone

This week we had a walk to a local park which is also a racecourse. We took a picnic, the little one had a kick of his rugby ball and we watched the horses so I have a mixed bunch of pictures from our little trip. All taken with my phone and uploaded via the blogger app which does have a tendency to add them haphazardly

Skywatch At Party In The Park

Last Sunday we were lucky enough to have tickets for Party In The Park at Leeds.

Most of the music was not particularly my cup of tea but it was a nice afternoon out.  The sun finally came out to play after all the recent rain and the kids really enjoyed it. I can't ask for any more than that.

There were 70,000 people there apparently  (love that sky)

This young man who goes by the name of Labrinth was outstanding and, in my opinion, was miles better than most of the other acts.

Although I have to say I really enjoyed the performance by Marcus Collins.  He was one of my favourites from X Factor last year.

and I surprised myself by quite enjoying the performance by a certain boy band by the name of One Direction. I think I went deaf for a few moments after they came on though.  Thousands of screaming girls isn't by idea of a fun afternoon.

I'm not going to bore you with pictures of every act but they included Stooshe (fab), Alyssa Reid (a way bit too much attitude about having traffic related issues and not that good), Cover Drive (quite enjoyable), Marcus Collins (fantastic), One Direction (surprised myself), Wretch 32 (another who was fab), Conor Maynard (was OK), Little Mix (really good), Labrinth (stood out as THE best act), Alexandra Burke (boring yawn yawn), DJ Fresh (OK at what they do but not really my cup of tea), Taio Cruz (boring until he sang Dynamite but even then not that good), Professor Green (not my cup of tea but the lady singing with him was amazing) and last up was Tulisa (quite why she was last up I don't know but she was rubbish in my opinion)

Skywatch With Sculptures

Yesterday I was lucky enough to be able to accompany my youngest son's class on a school trip to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. It was a beautiful day and I really wish I had taken the camera with me. I used my phone instead for this little collection of shots.

It's definitely worth the £7.50 parking fee if it's a nice day as everything is spread out over quite a distance. Prior warning though that in some parts sheep roam freely and there is a lot of poop.

Red sky at night shepherds delight....or so they say. This red sunset on Sunday certainly left promise for a nice Monday and mother nature didn't disappoint.

Well today the skies are looking as if they may contain a little of the white stuff however they are very boring so I'm using a photo I took with my phone in January. Those pesky gulls again.

It's hard to believe looking at the sky today that it is January. 

I wanted to get a picture of the clouds today but I got lucky with a gull flying across at the same time.

First one of 2012

We have had crazy weather the last few days. The winds have been like nothing I've ever heard before.  Our bedroom is in the loft and we definitely have had a few scary nights hoping and praying that the chimney pots weren't going to crash down on us.  Thankfully the 'weather experts' are saying the worst is over. 

I grabbed a quick shot with my phone of the beautiful blue sky we have today whilst I was out.

Christmas Skywatch

For the last skywatch of the year I have chosen two photos.

The first one is one I took very very quickly on christmas eve morning whilst I was out and about. It was around 830am and the sun was rising.

I went down to Elland Road on Sunday for some Christmas presents from the Leeds United superstore.

 

There are still tributes by the Billy Bremner statue in memory of Gary Speed who died earlier this month.  I took the time to have a look and snapped the above picture on my phone. It was heartwarming to see tributes from other teams in amongst the lovely bunches of flowers, shirts, scarves, hats, flags and teddy bears. The large wreaths just above the teddy bear's head to the left of the base of the statue look like they are the ones placed in the ground during the first home match after his death by the Leeds and Millwall managers and his former team mates (Gordon Strachan, Gary McAllister and the ever gorgeous David Batty). A sky from late November just as the sun was setting

Skies here are very dark at the moment here in Yorkshire. Lots of high winds and stormy conditions forecast for the next few hours especially in Scotland. Stay safe everybody.
